happy hour at home

I had the great fortune to go to last year’s Dove Lewis Wet Nose Soiree.  This is a black tie fundraiser for our local (amazing, incredible…) emergency vet clinic.  New Deal was the featured cocktail sponsor and I got to go represent.  At events like this, their hope is that they will ply enough people with enough booze that spending inhibitions will be dropped by the wayside.

I fell prey to the yummy libations and bought a day with the Oregon State Crime Lab.  It was so much fun and my guide for the day was darling!

Last Friday I got the pleasure of reciprocating and hosted a group from the crime lab at the distillery.  In the honor of their visit I came up with a few fun cocktails featuring some of the bounty of our late summer harvest.

Drink up.

1/4 cup cubed cucumber or 1 2″ piece cucumber
4 medium basil leaves
1/4 oz simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water)
1/4 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
1/2 oz New Deal Ginger Liqueur
1 oz Portland 88 Vodka
Shake and strain into a martini glass.

For a bit more zip…
Sarah Sidle
do all above, except instead of 1 ounce Portland 88
1/4 oz Hot Monkey
3/4 oz 88
